The Selene attunement was channelled and compiled by Elizabeth Hibel, and it is a devotional connection to the Greek goddess of the full moon. The manual sets her carefully in the family of Greek myth: Selene is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, sister of Helios, and one of the deities of light during the dynasty of the Titans. She holds the full moon phase of the lunar cycle, with Artemis holding the crescent new moon and Hecate the waning moon.
Like her brother she drives a chariot across the sky each night, hers usually drawn by two horses, beginning her journey once his is finished and bathing in the sea beforehand, and she is described as a young woman with a very white face, robed, carrying a torch and wearing a half moon on her head.
By Zeus she is mother of Pandia, whose name means All-bright, and of Ersa, meaning Dew; by the shepherd Endymion she is mother of fifty daughters representing the fifty lunar months between each Olympiad.
The manual also gives her practical correspondences, since Monday is her day: silver, white and light blue as colours, the Moon as planet, silver as metal, pearl, opal and moonstone as gemstones, and wintergreen and other mints, catnip, comfrey, sage and chamomile as her herbs.
What this attunement is intended to support:
- It is traditionally used to support the awakening of intuition and the sparking of psychic vision.
- Selene is regarded as a patron of solutions, which the manual connects to answers that arrive in dreams.
- It is used to support dream work generally, given the old association of night and moon with the dreaming mind.
- It offers a devotional relationship with a named goddess whose days of worship are the full and the new moon.
- It is used to support wisdom and reflection rather than action, in keeping with the lunar rather than solar current.
- Its correspondences give the practitioner a concrete way to build an altar or a Monday practice.
What you receive:
- The attunement to the energies of the Goddess Selene, sent with clear intention.
- Her full mythological background, her family, her attributes and the Endymion story, together with the Homeric Hymn to Selene.
- Her table of correspondences, covering day, colours, planet, metal, gemstones and herbs.
Who this is for:
- People who work with lunar cycles and want a specific goddess of the full moon rather than a generic moon energy.
- Dream workers and intuitives looking for a patron for that side of their practice.
- Practitioners who like correspondence work and want a ready-made set for altar and candle practice.
How it is used:
The attunement procedure the founder gives is her own way rather than the only way. Prepare the room by dimming the lights and playing soft, unintrusive music, and light a candle, white, silver or light blue for Selene, or burn incense if you prefer. Relax thoroughly.
Call in your helpers, guides, gods or goddesses, and especially the Goddess Selene, asking them to help you be a clear, pure channel and to keep you safe from any negative energy or unwanted presence. State your intention plainly, naming the person you are attuning, then relax and let the energies flow, and when you feel them diminish you are finished. For a hands-on attunement, ground both yourself and your client afterwards and give them a glass of water, and remember to thank your helpers.
